Bucket List Travel Destinations

One of the greatest inspirations for stunning home remodels is travel. If you find a place that speaks to you, there are architectural and design features that can make your beloved home feel like a treasured vacation. Of course, to find this inspiration, you have to get out into the world! There are so many places to choose from, but we have our own special bucket list of destinations that are a must-see.

Italy

Italy is a highly-desired trip for wine lovers and adventurers alike. Tuscany’s hills are magnetic and there is a wealth of culture to be find in every villa. The scenery, the food, the art, and more are all reasons why you should make this destination a priority. It can be expensive, but if you don’t mind the heat, August is when discounts can be found.

Greece

For those interested in mythology, Greece is the best place to explore. Athens is a bustling city that entices all ages, but the small villages by the sea should not be disregarded. Greece boasts one of the world’s largest open-air museums, along with experiences that can’t be found anywhere else. Climb Mount Olympus, explore the architecture, and indulge in Mediterranean delights.

Ireland

If your remodel plans include castle-like features, Ireland is where you will find your inspiration. There are numerous castles that can be toured and stayed in, with cliffs that will have you dreaming of a new landscape. Explore Viking history or go kayaking down one of the many famous rivers as you explore the incredible geography. Ireland is a diverse country with unlimited activities.

Iceland

This destination, ripe with myths and legends, is also home to some of the world’s best spas. The surface may be covered in ice with its northern location, but the many active volcanoes create warm waters. There is no end to the luxury that can be found in Iceland, with nature reserves and bustling cities that will keep any tourist happy. If you’ve made it as far as Iceland, you can’t leave without seeing the Northern Lights. Although the Northern Lights can be viewed from Reykjavik, you’ll get a much better view if you find a spot away from light pollution.

Plan Your Travel: What You'll Need

Passport

First step is to get your passport! This can take several weeks, so plan accordingly. Also keep in mind the six-month rule and be mindful that if your passport expires within the next six months, some countries may deny you entry. Get it renewed before you make any international plans if it is close to expiring.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is a life-saver, whether you’ve lost your luggage somewhere, missed a flight, or slipped and sprained an ankle. You’ll save the costs of international health care and be eligible for reimbursements.

Credit Cards and Cash

There’s no need to pay foreign transaction fees for every purchase when many credit cards allow for international purchases. Check for these deals on your existing cards or apply for one that offers a free exchange rate. If you need cash, be sure to sign up for checking accounts that will reimburse you for all ATM fees, including international transactions.

International Phone Plan

The ability to communicate while traveling is important! International calls can cost about one dollar per minute, and international data can leave you with a devastating phone bill. Arrange to add an international plan with your existing carrier to minimize costs.

Set Travel Goals

Decide when you want to make your next trip and start planning! The best way to save is to watch for airline deals and book your flights early. You’ll save more if you travel in the off-season for your destination. Set aside an amount of money to save every pay period and store it in a travel account that you won’t touch until your trip. Committing to an adventure is the first step, even if you only travel internationally once every two years or three years. The experience is well-worth it, and the memories will last forever.
