Home Remodeling Benefits for Homeowners to Consider

January 28, 2022 by april@ntremodel.net

Home remodeling can be a fantastic method to increase the value of your property while also improving it. Americans invest $400 billion each year on house remodeling, according to the National Association of Realtors. If you’re on the fence about remodeling your home and you’re in the Pacific Northwest area, here are some benefits that may change your mind.

1. Increase the Value of Your Home

A well-done remodel can increase the value of your home by tens of thousands of dollars. In some cases, it may even be worth more than the cost of the remodel itself. A recent study by Remodeling Magazine found that homeowners who remodeled their kitchens saw a median return on investment (ROI) of almost 90 percent. These numbers are around the same in the East Seattle area.

Kitchens and bathrooms are the most popular rooms to remodel, but any room in your home can be remodeled to increase its value. If you’re thinking of selling your home in the near future, a remodel may be just what you need to get top dollar. If that is not the case, a remodel can still increase its value by making it more comfortable and functional for you and your family.

2. Improve Your Home’s Functionality

Remodeling can also improve the functionality of your home. If you have a small kitchen, for example, you may want to consider remodeling it to add more counter space and storage. If you have a large family, you may want to add another bedroom or convert an attic into a livable space.

Home remodeling can also make your home more comfortable. If you’re tired of your old, outdated kitchen or bathroom, a remodel can give them a fresh new look. You can also add features like heated floors, ceiling fans, and more to make your home more comfortable and convenient to live in.

3. Increase Your Home’s Energy Efficiency

A well-executed remodel can also increase the energy efficiency of your home. If you install new windows, for example, you may be able to reduce the amount of heat that escapes in the winter and keep your home cooler in the summer. You can also add insulation to your walls and attic to keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Installing energy-efficient appliances can also help you save money on your energy bills. If you’re remodeling your kitchen, for example, consider installing a high-efficiency dishwasher or refrigerator.

Be Sure to Hire a Qualified Contractor

3 Essential Kitchen Remodel Design Tips

January 28, 2022 by april@ntremodel.net

A kitchen remodel may significantly alter the appearance and feel of your home. After remodeling, 74 percent of homeowners are now more interested in staying in their house, according to the National Association of Realtors. If you’re considering a kitchen remodel, use these tips to help make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

1. Determine Your Budget

Before planning your kitchen remodel, it’s important to determine how much money you have to spend. Work with a contractor to create a realistic budget that meets your needs. This will help keep the project on track and avoid any surprises down the road.

If you have a smaller budget available, you can still do several things to improve your kitchen. For example, you could replace your cabinets or appliances or install a new countertop.

2. Choose the Right Contractor

Not all contractors are created equal. When choosing a contractor for your kitchen remodel, be sure to do your research and ask for references. Ask the contractor how they plan to handle potential problems during the project and how they will ensure that the work is completed on time and within budget.

It’s also important to get a written contract in place before work begins. This will protect you if something goes wrong or the contractor fails to live up to their promises.

3. Plan Ahead

If you want your kitchen remodeling to go as smoothly as possible, it’s important to plan. Make a list of everything you want to be done and draw up some preliminary sketches of what you have in mind. This will help the contractor understand your vision and avoid any misunderstandings down the road.

It’s also a good idea to create a timeline for the project and share it with your contractor. This will help them stay on schedule and avoid any delays. It’s also important to plan when it comes to ordering materials. If you need special order items, be sure to place your order well in advance, so there is no delay in getting the work started.

As you can see, there are several things you can do to make your kitchen remodel go smoothly. You can ensure that the process is as stress-free as possible by following these tips.

Weathering the Storm: Challenges & Solutions in Today’s Design Build Industry

January 19, 2022 by april@ntremodel.net

It’s no secret that the last two years have been challenging for everyone, and the remodeling industry is no exception. Bellevue area homeowners seeking home-improvement projects may feel overwhelmed and unsure about how to, or if they should, proceed with their projects. We’re here to help. Let’s explore three of the biggest challenges our industry is facing and how we help clients navigate these market conditions.

Challenge #1: Supply Chain Disruptions

From COVID-19 to the effects of extreme weather like fires and flooding, supply chain disruptions have been unavoidable. Materials like lumber and appliances are hard to find and expensive. Prices are going up, and projects are taking a lot longer to get done.

Solution: Start Today!

The best advice we can give during these times is to start projects sooner. Prices are unlikely to go down in the foreseeable future and holding out may very well make the situation worse. Additionally, you should be prepared well in advance and have realistic expectations with your timeline. Even though it may take longer than any of us would like, we guarantee your finished dream home will be worth the wait.

Challenge# 2: Labor Shortages

As you’re well aware from daily news stories, businesses all over are struggling to find workers and Woodinville/Sammamish remodelers are no different. Experienced, specialty tradespeople like carpenters and electricians are especially difficult to come by. Many homeowners are experiencing the frustration of contractors being unresponsive — or even worse, starting a job and not finishing it.

Solution: Go with Design Build

The idea of saving money by hiring out individual contractors may seem tempting, but we can assure you that you’ll be happier hiring a design build firm like Nip Tuck Remodeling. Not only will our experienced team design and plan your project efficiently, we will also manage all of the contractors involved, as well as the material ordering, delivery and scheduling. We work out all the details with our trade partners so that your project will be completed in a reasonable amount of time and will be of the highest quality. Furthermore, there won’t be any surprises with the cost of your remodel. After all, to be on-time, on-budget, and on-purpose is part of our identity.

Challenge # 3: Faltering from Inexperience

These are not ordinary times, and there are many more obstacles to overcome than usual. Inexperienced home remodeling contractors may not be able to navigate choppy waters, leading to many time-consuming and potentially expensive setbacks.

Solution: Choose Wisely

Homeowners need to be extra careful to choose a seasoned remodeling partner experienced with the type of project they’re planning. Doing some homework in the beginning could save a lot of frustration later. Check out reputable sources for reviews and testimonials, interview potential firms before signing on the dotted line, and make sure you’re considering more than just the cost. After all, finding a firm with the expertise needed to get the job done right despite the bumps along the way is invaluable.

While we can’t make prices go down or drastically improve wait times, the professionals at Nip Tuck Remodeling are ready to craft high-quality remodels even through challenging circumstances. Ready to get started? Contact us today

Nip Tuck Featured: House Kitchen of the Week

September 3, 2021 by april@ntremodel.net

The owners of this kitchen in Bellevue, Washington, love to cook and would regularly host gatherings of more than 20 people. The couple, who also love modern architecture, knew their cluttered kitchen wasn’t cutting it. They clicked with April Bettinger, owner of Nip Tuck Remodeling, at a golf event, and hired her to remodel their entire house.

“They’d started a bathroom on their own and realized they were in over their heads and needed help,” Bettinger says. As she does with every client, she “gave them homework,” using Houzz ideabooks to collect inspiration images, share comments and collaborate. Their goal was a modern, functional kitchen with smooth cabinetry free of hardware — minimalist but warm.

The Importance of Mindful Materials within Your Home

June 12, 2021 by april@ntremodel.net

When remodeling, it can be easy to prioritize the cost and look associated with updating your space over the actual materials that you are placing within your home. However, being cognizant of the quality and healthfulness of the elements used can be extremely beneficial in the long run. After all, most people consider a remodel to be an investment that only takes place once or twice within their lifetimes. Below are some pointers to take into consideration when deciding upon the materials that will be used.

Value Material Longevity over Cost

At Nip Tuck Remodeling, we pride ourselves in partnering with vendors who use high-quality materials that will withstand the test of time. What may seem like a cheaper option now, may turn into an expensive “re-remodel” down the road. One of the most important things you can do to ensure quality is to research different products and brands. Talk to different vendors, read reviews, and evaluate how your current home materials handle the wear and tear of everyday life. When given the choice, go with cabinetry, paint, and flooring that will last for at least ten years.

Choose Green Materials

There are several options when it comes to choosing “green materials” for your home construction or remodel. Select recycled product, VOC-free paint, energy-efficient appliances, install solar panels, or rehome products and materials from family, friends, and neighbors. Understand that home-building and remodeling practices are consistently being bettered to ensure a more environmentally conscious and health-centered outcome.

Select Products and Décor that Promote Mindfulness

One of the easiest ways to ensure that the materials you are using are “green” is to go with eco-friendly brands that align with your values and needs within your home. Even if the décor or materials you are using are not directly considered to be eco-friendly, make sure your home is filled with products that make you feel good and want to be the best version of yourself.

Overall, what you put into your home matters. By choosing quality elements that will last for the next ten years (at least), implementing “green” décor and building components, and being mindful of home décor and materials, you can ensure your space is the best it can be for both you and the world around you.

10 Ways to Increase Your Home Value

May 20, 2021 by april@ntremodel.net

It is common knowledge that updating your home’s value can be beneficial in a variety of ways. However, finding a way to increase value that works for you can be easier said than done. On trend with Nip Tuck Remodeling’s 10th Anniversary, below are 10 ways to increase your home value.

  1. Up-Level Your Home’s Attractiveness as a Whole
The number one thing you can do to increase home value is update the overall look of your home. If you are planning on selling, make sure your space’s aesthetic will be appealing throughout the next few years and for your target audience. Most importantly, do not cheap out! Invest in quality materials (like quartz, custom cabinetry, etc.) that will increase both your enjoyment of your home and it’s value.

  1. Update the Front Entry
People will make their initial impressions about your home as soon as they walk through the front door. Make sure that the space has inviting lighting, the flooring works well with the staircase (if you have one) and remove any odd décor or clutter.

  1. Add a Home Office
Now more than ever, people are working from home. Additionally, the majority of companies are deciding that telecommuting is here to stay. In order to keep up with the times, consider turning your spare room into a home office.

  1. Focus on the Kitchen and Bathrooms
Oftentimes, the top rooms people look at when purchasing a home is the kitchen and bathrooms. Make sure that your kitchen is aesthetically pleasing, functional, and has updated appliances. Consider replacing the giant tub in you master bathroom with a walk-in shower or updating the cabinetry and faucets. These changes will make a huge difference when it comes to resale.

  1. Update the Heart of the Home
Along the lines of updating your kitchen, ensure the main floor (the heart of the home) showcases continuity and is pleasant to look at. Updating the flooring, paint colors, doors, and hardware (eradicate the brass) will instantly be more eye appealing. Also, make the best use of your existing floorplan and consider making structural changes if need be.

  2. Increase Your Home’s Efficiency
A more efficient home will save you a substantial amount of money while also being a great selling point. Thoroughly insulating your house, updating all of the light bulbs to LED, and replacing outdated appliances are a few suggestions.

  3. Increase Your Home’s Functionality
With trending open floor plans and smarter ways to use space, more people have a lower tolerance for homes that do not functionally make sense. Increase your home’s functionality by ensuring the layout makes sense and focusing on the “flow” of the space. To add, declutter and add storage or make the most of whatever space you do have.

  4. Increase the Size of Your Home
If you are in a position to do so, adding an addition to your home will definitely increase the value and resale appeal. The extra space could be used for a garage, home office, or even entertainment room.

  5. Make Your Home “Smarter” with Technology
A home that is technologically up to date will both make your life easier and up your home’s value. Try implementing portable speakers, a smart thermostat, and security cameras/systems. You can even switch to smart lighting that controls the rooms dimming based on your mood.

  6. Make sure the yard is both beautiful and presentable. Curb appeal and how your home looks from the street is your first chance to make a good impression. A home’s exterior needs to make a prospective buyer want to walk through the front door. Make sure existing landscaping is well-maintained. If your yard seems dull in comparison with your neighbors, consider planting flowers or repainting the front door. Also, consider adding a covered patio or outdoor entertainment area.

Depending on both your short-term and long-term plans, increasing your home’s value should be a prioritized every few years. Include the above tips and watch the value of your home soar!

The Meaningful Reasons Why People are Remodeling

May 19, 2021 by april@ntremodel.net

This past year, many individuals were thrown off balance as the world went through a tremendous amount of uncertainty. However, this time was also an opportunity for people to analyze their lives and re-evaluate what is important to them. As more people spent a substantial amount of time at home, one of the biggest shifts was how they viewed their space and the impact it has on their everyday lives. With this new mindset, homeowners are viewing remodeling as more than just a project or way to increase home value. They have adopted more meaningful reasons for why their homes should be enhanced and you may be following suit.

Everyone Deserves to Live in a Home They Love

Much of your life is spent inside of your home and that life is meant to be beautiful. Your personal space should reflect this and be the place you can rest, relax, enjoy time with friends, learn, and grow. Home is where many memories are created and is the center of birthdays, graduations, and other life events. You should enjoy your home every day and look forward to thriving within a space that suits your needs and lifestyle. Remodeling gives you the opportunity to fall back in love with your house and help you achieve the space you truly deserve.

You Work Hard for Your Money

Having a home means you have worked hard and achieved what so many others are trying to accomplish: the American Dream of homeownership! And whether we admit to it or not, our home is often a reflection of our prosperity. Accepting a home you do not enjoy is comparable to accepting other low-value propositions in your life. A space that does not suit you is not only a missed opportunity to invest in yourself and your future, it can be a poor reflection of the sacrifices you have made to be both personally and professionally successful. Remodeling allows you to enjoy the fruits of your labor and create the space that you have always dreamed of.

Home and Hearth is a Human Need

As human beings, we have an innate desire for security and a sense of self-identity. One of the ways we embrace our identity is by having a safe place that belongs to us. Home is an intimate physical space that is sacred. It is where you can gather, take off social masks, and be yourselves. It is also a sanctuary away from the chaos of everyday life and the tension of shared spaces. By remodeling and making your home the best it can be, you are feeding your innate craving for a secure and communal space for you and your loved ones.

Your Home Should be a Direct Reflection of Your Life

Our homes say a lot about who we are and what we think is important in life. Every little detail showcases our story, what we enjoy doing, and who we spend our time with. It is also where we express our personal taste in décor or implement design elements from past travels that inspire us. As we age, our home should also reflect this and change with us. By deciding to remodel, you are truly taking ownership of your space by using it to further tell your story.

Overall, updating your home is about more than making it look nice or preparing it for resale. A remodel is an opportunity to create the home you have always deserved, invest your hard work and money into your space, fulfill your primitive need for warmth and security, and most importantly; demonstrate who you are as a person.

How to Integrate a Modern Remodel into Your Traditional Home

April 30, 2021 by leohillmedia

With words like “modern” and “contemporary floating around the world of remodeling, many homeowners are wondering how to update their spaces to meet these trendy ideals. While a newly updated mid-century modern living room may be on your Pinterest board, it can be an unrealistic endeavor if you live in a traditional home with all of the accompanying details. For example, walking into a sleek contemporary kitchen when the rest of the house is full of traditional arched entryways and crown molding can be a jarring experience for both you and your guests. So how can you incorporate more modern details into your remodeling project while maintaining the integrity of your traditional home? Check out the below pointers to give you some inspiration on how to make this possible.

Decide What You Love and What You Hate

The majority of the time, the easiest place to start is to create a list of what you love and hate about your home. Which parts of your space inspire you and make you feel happy and relaxed? Perhaps there are rooms and details that bring back memories and make you feel euphorically nostalgic. Home in on these aspects of your space and keep them in mind when deciding on a new design. On the flip side of this, take note of what parts of your home create negative feelings or spark no emotion. What isn’t functioning properly or causing inconvenience? Resolve to eliminate what stands out to you or design around it.

Do Not Try to Keep Up with the Joneses

It can be easy to get sidetracked by transformed spaces that you see on HGTV, in magazines, or in other people’s houses. You may be hoping that you can replicate that dreamy minimalistic kitchen into your now traditional home. However, it is important to focus on what your space looks like now and how you can improve it in a way that realistically makes sense…for you. It is also a good idea to consider other factors such as where you live and what other comparable homes in the neighborhood look like. Afterall, remodeling your home should be an investment that better prepares you for possible resale down the road.

Embrace Transitional Design

Transitional design marries both modern and traditional aesthetic so that you can truly have the best of both worlds. This style embraces elements such as stone and marble, clean lines, sleek profiles, and feminine and masculine touches. It gives the modern feel of contemporary without completely wiping out traditional detail and is a happy medium. Overall, transitional is a design favorite for homeowners who need to update their space but do not wish to move.

If you are deciding to update your space but still want to honor the traditional aspects of your home, there are steps you can take to make this happen. By creating a list of what you love and hate, remaining focused on your home and goals, and embracing transitional design, you can create a space you love. Most importantly, you can also turn to a professional who will help and guide you through this process. At Nip Tuck Remodeling, we are experts at asking you questions about your space and pointing you in the right remodeling direction. Give us a call at 425-681-7668 and partner with us!
