These clients desperately wanted to transform their primary bath into a spacious, spa-like retreat.
Challenge
This Woodinville home boasts a new, beautiful backyard area, but the homeowners felt disconnected from it inside their cramped and impractical kitchen that was far too small for family dinners.The homeowners asked our team to:
- Find a unique way to open up the space and bring the outdoors in
- Bring more natural daylight to the kitchen and hallway
- Add greater functionality to the kitchen with a new island big enough to accommodate the family
Solution
Blending the indoors and outdoors seamlessly relied on one key element – a custom folding window/door. Once installed, the windows along the countertop and large glass doors fold out in opposing directions. The result is a breathtakingly unique melding of interior and exterior. The look is offset by an exterior countertop that extends straight from the kitchen to create a seated bar area where guests can enjoy a glass of summer punch while keeping the chef inside company.
We finished off the look by adding even more seating around the enlarged island. Blending a timeless traditional style in with the clients’ modern aesthetic we installed quartz counters and a sleek herringbone tile backsplash. To add more warmth to the bright white perimeter cabinets, we placed walnut accents on the island’s lower cabinets and a v-shaped, built-in wine rack to finish the look with a bit of visual interest.
